Welcome to Woodland Warriors!
Firstly, thank you for visiting this page, we hope it is useful to you! It is aimed at anyone with a love for children and early years, whether that be a parent, a practitioner, student, or any type of early years professional, in order to help support your knowledge and understanding of a Forest School and how to successfully develop one.
We are six Early Years Foundation Degree students who are currently in our second year of studies. We have created this academic blog as a group and it will be updated daily with new information, different perspectives and controversial topics, which we hope will spark interesting conversation. Please do leave comments on our blog entries and tell us what you think!

I came onto the Foundation Degree straight from completing my Level Three diploma, after leaving school with my GCSEs, so I have yet to leave education. Currently I work in a primary school in the middle of Gloucester as a reception class teaching assistant, but have previously worked with children aged from 3 months to 8 years. I hope to finish this degree, continue on to complete it with a third year, and begin my PGCE to become a qualified teacher.
Sophie
I began this course after finishing my A levels, I applied for level 3, but was encouraged to do the foundation degree, level 4 and 5. I started a placement in a rural setting which is based in the countryside of Gloucester, but in March I got offered a part time job working three days a week with the pre-schoolers. After this course I hope to develop my knowledge further with my level six, or a change of positions within setting, Much further down the line, I would love to be able to open my own Nursery based in a rural; community.
Abby
After changing careers numerous times, I eventually found a passion in early years. I came across this career through completing voluntary work. I have built up such a passion for my job as a Community Family Worker based in a children's centre. From this passion, I wanted to further my education so that my knowledge is the best it can be, but also more importantly to be the best practitioner I can be. In the future I hope to specialise in childhood counselling services, mainly through play. I believe this Forest School module will be a great learning experience that will help me develop my skills as a practitioner but also stand me in good stead for my future.
Lucy
I had been encouraged to start this course by my mentor at work as she had also completed the Early Years Foundation Degree. I wanted to learn as much as I could about how children lean and develop, to enable me to offer the very best experiences that will lead to lifelong learning. I was extremely excited to begin the Forest School module as outdoor learning is a great passion of mine. I hope our blog can ignite your passion too.
Debbie
I am currently working in a nursery and reception mixed class, which is now an academy primary school. I've returned to do this degree after 15 years out of education. After completing this course, I hope to go on to achieve my Early Years Teachers Status.
Carly
I decided to embark upon the Early Years degree after working within Early Years for the past 7 years and I felt now, after gaining lots of experience over this time, this degree was the perfect opportunity for me to develop and enhance my skills and knowledge in this area. My ultimate goal is to become a Family Support Worker, however at this present time I am enjoying putting my new found skills into practice and have so much passion and enthusiasm in helping children learn and develop into the best that they can be. This current Forest School module has excited us all as practitioners and we hope we can inspire you as readers!
Again, a massive thank you for visiting our page, please feel free to take a look around the blog, and leave opinions, comments and queries for us to answer!
